BizStarts Milwaukee is one initiative to strengthen the region’s innovation capacity. In fact, Entrepreneur magazine ranks the region as one of the “hottest” urban areas for entrepreneurs. Approximately 85 percent of the region’s business establishments have fewer than 25 employees.
The Milwaukee 7 includes the seven counties in southeastern Wisconsin: Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine, Ozaukee, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha.
Perfectly situated in the Upper Midwest, the Milwaukee Region is just 90 minutes north of Chicago and less than a day's drive from the Twin Cities, St. Louis or Indianapolis. General Mitchell International Airport provides direct or non-stop flights to 90 different destinations, our rail lines offer easy and economical access to markets throughout the nation, and the Port of Milwaukee connects the region with shipping markets round the world.
The Milwaukee Region is a natural location for business and ranks 4th among major US metro areas in the number of corporate headquarters per capita. One fourth of the United States population is within one day’s drive time of Milwaukee.
Affordable land and leasing costs, abundant fresh water, an educated workforce, low business costs and easy access to financing, technical assistance and efficient transportation have helped local businesses succeed and grow.
