Randy Spaulding founded his company to help solve a unique and life-threatening problem: medications were failing because of heart complications. By combining cardiology and pharmacology, he developed the Spaulding iQ Electrocardiograph, a hand-held device to reliably measure the heart's reaction to certain medications.
While the most advanced technology, the new Spaulding iQ system collects, analyzes and reports diagnostic ECG data using a 3 ounce, one-button electrocardiograph and a cloud-based ECG management portal, providing the highest quality results in cardiac safety testing for new drugs.
"I couldn't have done it without their help and the introductions to angel investors," says Spaulding.
Spaulding Clinical Research, based in West Bend, WI is now a United Stated-based leading-edge clinical pharmacology, cardiac core lab, and medical device manufacturer, employing 85 people in full-time positions at their West Bend facility.
But despite its cutting edge products and life-saving technologies, beginnings were challenging. BizStarts' support and advice was essential to his success. He approached BizStarts co-founder John Torinus, who became the essential link between him and potential investors. Mr. Torinus also served as a business coach and the flourishing company. With that support, Mr. Spaulding convinced investors to underwrite the life-saving devices he had tested and developed. That initial infusion of cash was matched in the form of equity capital by bank financing and secured by the building and the iQ device.
