BizStarts Milwaukee held its final Inspirational Entrepreneur event of 2011 on December 1 at We Energies, having just announced it was renaming its Inspirational Entrepreneur Award after original Board member – and certainly an inspirational entrepreneur - George Dalton. Mr. Dalton passed away last month at age 83 and will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him, respected his business leadership and his generous contributions to our community. The first official George Dalton Inspirational Entrepreneur Award honored Joe Tate, founder of Superior Services, Inc. and Tate Enterprises. Beginning Superior Services in 1967 with three employees and annual revenues of $40,000, by 1999 Superior was sold to Vivendi in an IPO for slightly over $1 billion on $400 million of revenue and 3,000 employees. Attendees also heard from an entrepreneur in the midst of building his company. Ken Wanek, CFP, RIA President and CEO, Datatrac, a market research company, has developed programs for the banking industry to monitor deposit and lending rates for over 20,000 financial institutions. Datatrac is the exclusive provider of interest rate data for national banking and professional organizations and he’s growing the company as we speak. BizStarts would like to thank We Energies and its staff for their hospitality and over 135 entrepreneurs, service providers, investors and supporters from across the seven county region who attended. Our next Inspirational Entrepreneur event will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 4-6pm. Watch your e-mail for details, and if you need to sign up for event notifications, let us know!
