Tax Credits for Business

Wisconsin Tax Credits

The state of Wisconsin offers a variety of tax credits for businesses at all stages of growth. The Department of Commerce manages the majority of these although other state departments may have some. Click on the following links for more information on the types of businesses eligible for these tax credits.

Federal Tax Credits

In addition to the standard IRS business credits and deductions available, the following tax credits may be available awarded via a competitive application process each year. The program is designed for large investment projects.

New Markets Tax Credit

The New Markets Tax Credit Program provides investors involved in large development/construction/renovation projects with a 39% federal tax credit over a seven year period for making qualified equity investment in designated areas.   The designated areas are defined by census tract demographics.    The program is administered by the US Department of Treasury Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.

Renewal Community Tax Credit

The Renewal Community Tax Credit is available in the City of Milwaukee under a designation from HUD that is targeted to specific census tracts. There are four different federal tax credits available to any businesses located in those census tracts.   For more information see www.milwaukeetaxinfo.com.

In addition to these business tax credits, also note the variety of tax exemptions allowed by the State of Wisconsin and listed on the Forward Wisconsin website.
